Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS)

Positive Behavior Intervention Supports, or PBIS, is a school-wide behavior framework.  PBIS uses a tiered, systems-based approach to teach, identify, and reinforce the behaviors that we want to see from students in our schools. 

Similar to the 8-Step Process for academics using data-driven instruction and tiered interventions, the PBIS framework includes preventative measures, maintenance, and tiered interventions for student behaviors.  

There are currently 10 schools that have teams of educators, lead by a team coach at each school, who are receiving training for planning and implementing the PBIS framework: East Washington Academy, Longfellow, Grissom, Mitchell, North View, Southside Middle School, South View, Storer, Sutton, and West View. 

Eight of our schools are currently in the year-long planning stage of PBIS while Grissom and Sutton are currently in the first year implementation stage.  Northside Middle School and Central High School will begin their PBIS training during the 2016-17 school year.
