Message from the Principal
North View Families,
Welcome to second semester! The year is flying right by, and great things are continuing to happen at North View. The students and teachers are working hard daily and are committed to excellence. Thank you for your continued support and participation to make this a successful school year for your child.
With first semester over, we will be focusing even more on preparing for ISTEP+, which will begin on February 29 and again at the end of April. The writing portion of the test will be centered around reading comprehension and a response to what the students have read. This will be similar to last year’s test but still very difficult. The second test will include technology-enhanced questions. We have been preparing for the test all year, but we will continue stressing these skills. You can help at home by making your sure your child completes their homework nightly. I would strongly encourage you to have your child log on to the websites below to prepare. This will expose them to the format of the test as well as additional testing practice.
The Indiana Department of Education is offering an amazing opportunity to all students. As part of the Indiana Department of Education’s on-going literacy initiative (The Hoosier Family of Readers), students, families, and educators will have access to more than 5,000 free, online books through the myON Digital Library. These books will be available until December 21, 2016. Additionally, the Department is encouraging students across the state to participate in its 200,000 book challenge. Every book read using myON will contribute to our goal of reading 200,000 books to celebrate Indiana’s Bicentennial in December 2016. What an awesome opportunity to get FREE books in the hands of our students. Check it out!
I also encourage you to follow me (@NorthViewMCS) and other staff members on Twitter. I will tweet upcoming events as well as photographs of happenings in the school. Not only does Twitter provide valuable school information, it also can serve as a conversation starter between you and your child as you ask them about topics you saw on Twitter.
Please feel free to stop in or call to make an appointment to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to continue to make this a great year!
