This is an after-school program providing mentoring relationships and activities between South View Elementary students and volunteers who have been screened and trained. The program runs for 30 weeks during the school year.

The Baby Care program helps mothers who are not on the WIC program to receive low-iron or no-iron formula, diapers, and clothing for their babies.

This program offers individual and group therapy for all speech, language, and hearing disorders.  Diagnostic tests are given before enrollment.

A child is matched in a one-to-one friendship with a screened and trained volunteer who acts as a mentor and role model.  Volunteers make a commitment of a minimum of nine months in which to build a quality and consistent relationship, ideally providing weekly contact.

Located at Ball State University Bracken Library contains more than 1,500,000 books, periodicals, newspapers, audio-visual materials, and government publications.  Residents of Indiana are eligible to obtain a library card in order to avail themselves of basic library services, although usage of audio-visual materials is restricted to students staff and faculty members.

Head Start is a comprehensive program which provides for the developmental needs of pre-school children with educational, social, medical, dental, nutritional and mental health services.  The goal is to bring about a higher level of knowledge for children of low-income families and to involve the family and community in the program's activities.

Located at the Dental Clinic, Muncie Area Career Center. Qualified dentists from the community provide operative dental care to school-age children through cooperative efforts by Muncie Community  Schools, the Delaware County Dental Society, and Muncie Kiwanis.  Children are referred to this service through their school nurse.  The program aids the low-income population.

Muncie Juvenile Aid Division Juvenile Aid's mission is to prevent and control juvenile delinquency and to investigate all criminal offenses  against children.

The school-age program offers before and after school-child care. The program also offers child care on emergency school closings, early release from school closings and delays, early release from school and school vacations. A summer camp program is available as well.

March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation-Indiana Educational material related to prevention of birth defects and infant mortality is available for schools, clinics, and individuals.  A public health information catalog is also available.  materials are very reasonably priced.

The mission of the Minnetrista Cultural Center is to provide life-long learning experiences in art, history, and science for the people of East Central Indiana and beyond. The mission of Oakhurst Gardens is to create awareness, understanding, and appreciation of our natural environment.  Exhibits are offered throughout the year.

The Motivate Our Minds program provides tutoring for at-risk students from the first through the eighth grade in the Muncie Metro Area.  The Program Coordinator will design a tutoring program for each child based on his/her individual need.  Students also participate in recreation, field trips, dances, theater, arts and crafts, library instruction, computer instruction, and academics.  Daily snacks are provided.  In addition to the East Highland Street Center, Motivate Our Minds' tutoring is available at the Multi-Center, the Buley Center and the Ross Center.

The MCM is a vibrant place to which children and families come to explore, discover, and learn.  Our mission is to enhance learning with exciting, hands-on interactive exhibits and programs for children from pre-school through the fourth grade. Our exhibits include Garfield Cartooning, Model Railroad, Dinosaurs, Water Works, Learn Not to Burn House, Under Indiana, Animal Acts, Farmyard, Semi-Truck, Market, Middletown, Exploraspace, Shafer Hall, and Outdoor Learning Center.

The Muncie Public Library provides books (300,00), magazines (900), compact discs (12,000), videotapes (20,000), audiotapes (7,500), CD-ROMs, newspapers, and laser discs, etc.  Programs are available for pre-schoolers, school-age children, and adults.

Occupational Therapy provides services for rehabilitation unit patients, hospital inpatients and outpatients from infants to adults.  If focuses on self-care and home management, equipment recommendations, pediatric treatment, evaluations, and treatment.

The Open Door/BMH Health Care is a not-for-profit community health center that serves Delaware and surrounding counties.

Community Resource Center for Families. An independent not for profit organization providing outreach to support parents and their students in achieving academic and holistic success by connecting parents with resources including peer support, access to experts and community partners to help bridge communication gaps between parents, schools and the community.

The Police Athletic Club provides recreational activities for the young (6 to 18 years old) such as bowling, boxing, karate, acrobatics, basketball, baseball, and football.  Apply at the Police Department.

 Project Leadership
             Project Leadership, housed in the Muncie Area Career Center, provides assistance to families of eligible 7th and 8th grade students who are eligible for Indiana’s Twenty-first Century Scholars program by meeting with those students to help them fill out the enrollment form.  The students then take the enrollment forms home for the parents to complete and return to their school.  Project Leadership personnel then complete the enrollment submission online.  Project Leadership also has a mentoring program for those same students as they enter high school.  The goal is to help them successfully complete high school graduation requirements and enroll in a post-secondary educational setting.  You can reach Project Leadership by emailing Dick Daniel (ddaniel@muncie.k12.in.us) or Julie McGee (jmcgee@muncie.k12.in.us), or calling them at 747-5250,

The Wapehani Girl Scout Council provides a number of activity centers for Girl Scout meetings, which last for two hours a session.  An "activity center" is a troop specifically designed to reach girls in under served areas.  Usually facilitated by a staff member, activity centers encourage parents and other adult volunteers to become involved in a helping or leadership capacity.
