Message from the Superintendent
I would like you to be aware that Muncie Community Schools has taken proactive measures to address the challenges of assuring that our children are safe in our schools. It is important to keep in mind that our schools are safe for children and youth during the school day and an important place for them to receive support. Communication and collaboration among schools, parents, and the community are critical to ensure that our students continue to view their schools as safe, caring and supportive environments.
The National Association of School Psychologists has developed a handout of tips to help parents and teachers cope with a national tragedy. You can access this information at their website, http://www.nasponline.org/resources/crisis_safety/terror_general.aspx.
The safety of our students is our highest priority. Muncie Community Schools has staff members who are School Safety Specialists. We want our families to be aware that our schools have updated school safety Crisis Management Plans that are working documents that we regularly review and revise. We have reminded our principals to review the safety procedures for their buildings, specifically intruder protocols and off-site reunification.
