What’s Happening at the MACC in November
Test Talk Meetings
All MACC students participated in Test
Talk meetings in order to learn more about the Accuplacer, Workkeys, and
Algebra I and English 10 ECA examinations.
The purpose was to assist students with understanding the purpose of
each test, the test format/layout, and how to prepare for taking standardized
tests. In addition, students viewed the
video, “Success in the New Economy,” providing them with an understanding of
postsecondary options based on a career focus.
Accuplacer Online Practice Test
Students were provided an opportunity to take an
online practice test that simulates the type of questions found on the
Accuplacer test. This activity allowed
students to practice using the problem-solving process taught to them during
bell work activities for answering test questions.
Accuplacer College Placement Test - The purpose of administering the Accuplacer
Examination is for determining eligibility for enrollment in college dual
credit and to assist students with knowing their college readiness levels. A total of 323 MACC students completed their
first step in preparing for entering college by completing the Accuplacer
Entrance Examination. For students
entering Ivy Tech or Vincennes University, many have now completed the testing
requirements. Accuplacer results will be mailed home to parents along
with the second, nine-weeks progress reports.
College Dual Credit Enrollments – MACC Teachers will be completing the
enrollment process for Ivy Tech and Vincennes University dual credit courses
during the month of November.
WorkKeys Certification – The MACC Seniors are preparing to
take WorkKeys Certification. The WorkKeys Assessment is part of the
National Career Readiness Certification program. The Certificate is a portable, evidence-based
credential that measures essential workplace skills. The WorkKeys Examination can be used to meet
the requirements for a Technical Honors diploma provided the student earns the
following scores: Applied Math (Level
6), Reading (Level 6), and Locating Information (Level 5). The scores will be
returned to the MACC by ACT sometime in December for distribution to students,
parents, and area counselors.
Technical Research Paper
MACC students are busy
getting started on writing their Technical Research Papers that are due at the
end of the first semester. Students will
complete pre-writing activities, rough-draft essays, and final essays that will
be graded using a building-wide rubric.
The completion of the Research Papers serves as practice for the type of
writing required in college course work and also mirrors the type of writing
required in the workplace.
