Public Safety


Students in this course will learn numerous skills that are commonly used by entry-level employees in public safety positions. This one-year course is divided in two sections: Law Enforcement and Fire Service. The focus of the course is to provide students exposure to the numerous career opportunities in the areas of public safety: Fire Fighter, Police Officer, 911 dispatchers, EMT's, security guards, and others. Students will spend one semester learning about the field of law enforcement and criminal justice. This will include police patrol tactics and procedures, crash scene investigations, criminal investigations, and Indiana criminal law. The fire service component taught in the alternate semester will provide opportunities to learn fire suppression tactics and procedures, as well as rescue procedures and tactics. Students will have the opportunity to earn a first responder medical certificate that is needed for all of the public safety professions.

Wages

High School and Vocational Graduates: $7.00 - $15.00/hr
Additional Technical Training: $17.00 - $28.00/hr
