Message from the Principal at Sutton Elementary

Sutton Elementary is partnering this year with the Child Advocacy Center a division of Meridian Health Services to bring Chaucie’s Place’s Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children™ to our Kindergarten, 2nd & 4th grade students.  Smart Steps is a child sexual abuse prevention and education program that empowers your child to say “NO!” to any unwanted touches that make them uncomfortable from anyone.   We invite you to attend a Smart Steps Parent Night on April 21 at 6:00 pm to learn more about the Smart Stepsprogram. This meeting is open to all parents and/or guardians of Kindergarten, 2nd & 4th grade students.  Please be advised that Parent Night is not open to children.  To learn more about Chaucie’s Place and the Smart Steps program, please visit:

Student-Parent Handbook:Every student will receive a student handbook.  The handbook contains local school policies and disciplinary procedures.  Parents need to sign the form stating that you have received the handbook.

Sutton’s Discipline and M.O.P. Rules:
We will continue our school wide reward/discipline action plan called M.O.P.  We are excited about our M.O.P. rules!  The M.O.P. rules are about respecting Me, Others and Property and it includes the 4 A’s –Admit, Apologize, Accept, and Amends to help solve the problem.

The school doors will open at 8:00 a.m.  At this time students are to report to either the cafeteria for breakfast or the gymnasium to wait for the 8:20 a.m. take up bellStudents are not to report to school before 8:00 a.m.  Any students that are staying after 2:30 p.m. must either have signed parent consent or must sign up and pay for after school child care.

              v  Students may enter the school grounds at 8:00 a.m.

        v  Students may go to breakfast or the gym at 8:00 a.m.
v  First Bell is at 8:20 a.m. (the breakfast program will end at 8:20 a.m.)

v  Tardy Bell (students must be in class) at 8:30 a.m.

v  Student dismissal is at 2:30 p.m.

School Safety:
All visitors must sign in at the office
upon entering the school building and please remember to sign out in the office when leaving.  All outside doors will be locked at 8:30 a.m.  Please use the security monitor on the brick wall (dark gray panel that is to the right of the front doors).  Please do not proceed to any classroom without office notification and signing in.  Our instructional time is very important and cannot be randomly interrupted.  The security of your children is of the utmost urgency.  PLEASE COOPERATE WITH THESE GUIDELINES—IT IS TO PROTECT YOUR CHILD!!
