Spring
Walking Club:

Walking Club resumed the first week of March, 2008. Third, fourth, and fifth graders meet after school to walk on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The purpose of the club is to increase physical activity and establish healthy lifestyles as well as to have lots of fun in the process. Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Aylor, Mrs. East, and Miss Cummins are the coaches for the participating students. Most of the walking is on the Cardinal Greenway, but sometimes the walks are to McCulloch Park or along the river path toward Minnetrista.
Walking club members build up their miles in order to participate in special walking activities like the Kidz' Marathon which is sponsored by the YMCA each May. This is always an exciting event, and each child receives a t-shirt and a finisher's medal. There are thirty-two students in the 2008 Walking Club. Some of them are pictured below. Don't they look like they are having fun?

Walking into Fitness and Good Health
By introducing a moderate amount of physical activity into your daily schedule, you can significantly improve your overall health, well-being, and quality of life. These benefits can be achieved by virtually everyone. Researchers have found a link between regular physical activity and improved immune function. With moderate exercise, immune cells circulate more quickly and are better at destroying viruses and bacteria. MODERATE is the key. So get started today. A brisk 30 to 60 minute walk on the Greenway three times a week is a great way to get started for the spring season. When you gradually increase the amount of exercise you do, your body responds by improving its capacity for exercise; and your fitness level improves.
