To our Wilson families from Mr. Reynolds
As we progress through the 4th nine weeks and look ahead, the end of the school year is packed full of testing, feildtrips, and other learning valuable learning experiences. This has been a very exciting school year for Wilson Middle School. I know students and staff will continue to meet and exceed the high expectations we have of ourselves and others.
We will continue to focus on creating an optimal and safe learning environment for every student. The administrative team will continue to run school safety drills and do periodical safety reminders during announcements. We will continue to address bullying during class meetings and during Success. In addition we will continue to focus on positive behavior reinforcement through Panther Praise cards, good behavior referrals, and student achievement celebrations.
Parents, be sure to ask your student about their academic progress. If some grades are not what you expect from them, there is still time to make improvements for the remainder of the school year. However, take action as quickly as possible. Discuss with your student options for improvement. Often grades slip for simple reasons such as not turning in work, not reviewing before tests, and not asking for help when struggling with subjects or assignments. Encourage your child to turn in all assignments on time, to set aside a specific time each evening for homework and review, and to ask for help when they need it. Parents you may check on progress regularly through the STI Information NOW system. If you have not received your pin number information, call the school so we can get that information to you.
One of our main goals this year, addressed in our School Improvement Plan, is to focus on building a culture of learning. With that in mind, our teachers have been working hard at developing an awareness of engaging all students in learning and providing equitable access to every Wilson Middle School student. The Wilson Middle School Team has attended a number of professional development opportunities, and will attend additional trainings throughout second semester in order to prepare our staff with skills and strategies to address our diverse student needs.
One area that I oversee for the school is ISTEP+ Testing. These tests are critical for your student to pass. Passing ISTEP+ is one of the indicators of student readiness for the next grade. Review the calendar for all the up-coming testing dates. All of our teachers are working very hard to prepare your students for success. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school immediately.
