School Closings and Delays
Muncie Community Schools makes every effort to notify school families in the event of school closings or a two-hour delay to the start of the school day. If school is canceled or delayed, we will utilize Honeywell Instant Alert, our phone and email notification system, and our school website, www.muncie.k12.in.us, and our Facebook to notify families. In addition, information will be sent to our local radio stations and the Star Press. The Indianapolis television stations also will be notified.
The YOC School is an educational program that has been on the campus of the YOC for several years. The different programs are at the Youth Opportunity Center because at times children are unable to attend traditional school due to a variety of reasons. Some students spend as short as 3 days on our campus as an alternative to suspension, while others may spend several years in our Day Treatment School because it best meets their educational needs.
We are excited to have this web page available to the public to highlight the variety of educational programs that we offer for kids from grades 2 to 12. As you surf through the site you will find information about our educational programs for kids who live on campus as well as the alternatives to suspension and expulsion programs for kids who attend many of the schools in Delaware County. Please take a moment to click through the various pages and contact us if you have any questions or comments about our web page or the programs we offer to students.
Y.O.C. Education Program Mission
The mission of the Youth Opportunity Center Education Program is to work in conjunction with the mission of the Muncie Community Schools to enhance academic achievement and personal growth, provide for diverse educational and personal needs, teach and encourage responsible student behaviors, and challenge students to achieve academic and personal excellence.
8 Step School
The YOC School is an 8 step school. The Program Supervisor along with 6 teachers went through a 5 day training in 2011-2012 with Pat Davenport to learn about the 8 step process. Implementation of the 8 step process began 2nd semester of the 2011-2012 school year. The YOC teachers are working hard to implement a data driven approach to better help students succeed.
