About Us

Muncie Community Schools (MCS) has delivered education and shaped the Muncie community since 1855. The first high school commencement took place on June 26, 1868.  Currently, with 350 teachers at nine schools – six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school – MCS annually educates approximately 5,000 students and manages other educational facilities benefitting children and adults throughout East Central Indiana.

Through a one-of-a-kind partnership with Ball State University, MCS is transforming public education into an innovative cradle-to-career, community-based experience that prepares all learners to succeed in college, career and life. MCS employs culturally responsive practices that respect all students and families, empowering them to build on their strengths and improve on their weaknesses.

With oversight from its Ball State-appointed board of trustees, MCS has seen tremendous recent achievements in philanthropic giving, teacher pay, professional development, teacher retention and enrollment stabilization. The district itself boasts a long list of unique programs, facilities and learning experiences.
