Additional Education Programs

The Muncie Area Career Center (MACC) is dedicated to the development of skills that will prepare students for college and career. This is done through its Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, which offers 14 different pathways ranging from Automotive Service Technology to Welding.

The program is open to juniors and seniors from Muncie Central as well as those from high schools throughout Delaware, Blackford and Randolph counties, including Burris, Blackford, Cowan, Daleville, Delta, Monroe Central, Union City, Wapahani, We-Del, Winchester and Yorktown.

MCS students in grades  4-8 who are interested in a virtual program must be enrolled in their neighborhood school and set up a meeting with the school administration. Enrollment numbers are limited  and acceptance in the program will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Virtual Program students will be expected to log in and be present each school day just as if attending our traditional, in-school learning program.

Virtual Program FAQ

The “Grad Acad” is a half-day, in-person program designed for MCHS juniors and seniors who have gotten behind in their credits needed to stay on pace to graduate with their peers. These students work collectively with instructors on core subjects, increasing their ability to understand the material and get them back on track for a timely graduation.

MCHS Online is geared for MCHS students who are substantially behind on needed class credits, but have shown the ability to work independently through an online curriculum. These students meet weekly with instructors to maintain their path to graduation.

The Crossing School of Business & Entrepreneurship was a ground-breaking alternative education program when it was founded in Elkhart, Ind., in 2003. Since then, it has contracted with 28 public school corporations at 14 locations around the state. MCS partnered with The Crossing at the start of the 2023-24 school year.

Located in the former Muncie Area Career Center building on Elgin Street, this program is for high school juniors and seniors really struggling in the traditional classroom environment and perhaps on the verge of dropping out. Its three-pronged approach to engage students includes: credit recovery, job training and character education (an optional faith-based component).

With its extremely small class sizes and experienced instructors, this program has an impressive track record of equipping these students with credentials and skills needed to succeed in the workforce. To get more details about The Crossing, click here.

MCS has alternative education opportunities at both of our middle schools for students dealing with a variety of issues that are affecting their ability to achieve in the classroom. At Northside, it’s known as Success Academy while Southside’s program is called ACE (Alternative Classroom Experience). These in-person programs utilize specially trained teachers to engage the students with their academics and put them back on a path of success.

The Youth Opportunity Center (YOC) attempts to meet struggling students where they are on an individual basis, as many come to the program with significant challenges and academic deficits. Instructors and guidance counselors work with students to get them back on track with their coursework and behaviors with a goal of having them rejoin their peers in traditional classrooms. The Pathway to Prosperity and Excellence Program  through Ivy Tech is designed to provide academic and career support for Muncie Central high school students that might be considered at-risk.

The Pathway to Prosperity and Excellence Program is housed at the Ivy Tech Muncie Cowan Road Advanced Technology Center where students will have access to Ivy Tech tutoring. Through the program students can successfully earn their high school diploma as well as industry recognized credentials and certifications. In addition to support in their virtual classes, students will complete the Ivy Tech Career Assessment Tool and work with a career coach to determine the best pathway to a career after graduation.
